Yakuway Board Member’s Ally Accreditation with Evolve Communities

Since 2022, the Yakuway Indigenous Corporation Board has contributed to advancing the organisation’s vision for a new dreaming - one grounded in self-ownership, holistic wellbeing, and cultural safety for all.

The Yakuway Board remains deeply committed to the wellbeing of the local community, focusing on creating opportunities, offering support through life’s challenges, and providing leadership and guidance. Looking ahead, the organisation is preparing to open a Wellbeing Centre in Toronto, Lake Macquarie, in 2026, which will further extend its reach and impact across the region.

As part of her ongoing commitment to reconciliation and cultural understanding, Board Member AJ (Alexandra Joy) recently completed the Ally Accreditation program with Evolve Communities, led by Aunty Munya Andrews and Carla Rogers. She describes the experience as both powerful and transformative, offering invaluable insight into allyship and practical reconciliation.

Thank you to Yakuway Board Chair Malcolm Smith, to the late Uncle Bill Smith, whose legacy continues to inspire Yakuway’s work, and to our fellow Board Members for their ongoing support. Together, they continue to embody Uncle Bill’s enduring message of walking together - a guiding principle for reconciliation in action.

For individuals and organisations seeking to strengthen their reconciliation journey, we encourage connecting with Evolve Communities to learn more about what Allyship and Practical Reconciliation look like in practice. Practical Reconciliation begins with a genuine desire to connect, and grows through meaningful action supported by cultural awareness and understanding.
