Supporting Connection to Country: Yakuway Backs Women’s Sacred Camp in Wollombi

Yakuway board directors Malcolm Smith and Alexandra Joy recently supported the women’s sacred camp held on Wollombi, Biamie Country, contributing both practical resources and cultural support to the gathering.

Over the course of the week, the camp brought women together in a space grounded in connection - to Country, to culture, and to each other. Malcolm and Alexandra provided essential materials including weaving supplies, camping equipment, and shared cultural knowledge of the sacred sites in the region.

The inclusion of weaving materials supported participants in engaging with traditional practices, offering a hands-on way to connect with cultural knowledge and creative expression. Time spent visiting sacred sites further deepened the experience, allowing attendees to learn, reflect, and honour the stories and significance of the land.

This support reflects Yakuway’s ongoing commitment to nurturing cultural experiences and creating opportunities for meaningful connection on Country.
